These are images of launchers I made for igniting Beral pipet bulbs filled with various amounts of hydrogen and oxygen. Students fill the pipets with different volumes of each gas to find the best ratio (the one that makes the pipet fly the farthest).

Surprising, at least to most of my students, 100% hydrogen is NOT the best amount. They discover that there must be SOME oxygen. The second surprise is that a mixture of 50-50 hydrogen-oxygen is also NOT the best ratio.

These launchers are made from scrap lumber, wood screws, paper clips and piezzo type butane lighters. I remove or pierce the butane tank in the lighters to remove the gas, and then run wires from the igniter to the paper clip launcher mounted on the piece of wood.
