IN THE COUNSELING CENTER.
The
Department of Education is no longer mailing paper FAFSA applications to high
schools or colleges. If you would like to apply with the paper application you
will have to call 1-800-4FEDAID to obtain a copy. The Department encourages
families and students to file on-line.
College applications can be downloaded via the Internet. Students are encouraged to register on-line.

scholarships and other financial aid.

scholarship database in existence. Nearly $35 billion in scholarship money that
students will not to repay. It is free, safe and they do not sell names or
email addresses of students to third parties.
The Council for America’s
First Freedom announces the 15th annual First Freedom Student
Competition. This first semester
national essay contest offers 9th – 12th grade
students an opportunity to compete for a $3,000, $1,500 and $750 award, as they
examine the First Amendment and the history and relevance of religious freedom
in America and the world today. To

The College Board will supply
you with a CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE. Please visit the website https://profileonline.collegeboard.com The cost of the initial application,
including the first school report is $25.00.
If you need to order a
diploma, you should follow these instructions: Send a check in the amount of
$15.00 payable to Frederick County Public School, 7516 Hayward Road, Frederick,
Maryland 21702, Attention: Guidance. In the envelope with the check, you need
to include your full legal name at the time of graduation; the school and year
of graduation; date of birth; current address and current phone number. Once
the information is received, it will be verified and it will take between 4 and
6 weeks to receive the diploma. You will need to pick the diploma up at Hayward
Road or pay postage to have it mailed to you.
Please visit www.centralsb.org (applications will be available on the
website after 1/2/08) to apply for interest free loans, scholarships and grants
which will be awarded to 181 students in Maryland. There are no application
fees, loan fees or fees of any kind at any time to the student or his/her
family. Loans are always interest-free, including throughout the repayment
period. You must be a resident of Maryland, although you can attend any
accredited US college, university or vocational school. You must be a full-time
student in good academic standing, meet CSB income guidelines and have
completed the FAFSA to apply for Federal financial Aid.
On April 13 & 27 (13
– Brunswick), (27 – Middletown) SAT-PSAT Prep will be held. TIME:
12 – 4:30 P.M – you should attend both sessions. Cost is $185
(which includes a $25 non-refundable registration fee). You may pick up a registration form in
the Guidance Office or email: MartGagnon@aol.com
You must be registered at least 5
days before the class begins.
JUNIORS: The American Legion
Boys State 2007 will be held at McDaniel College, Westminster, Maryland, June
15-21.If you would like to attend please see Mrs. Alexander in guidance. You will be able to apply for the
Samsung Scholarship grant if you attend in 2008. You must meet certain criteria
If you are between 18-28 years
old, interested in the Nursing field, University of the District of Columbia is
offering FREE tuition, FREE books, a $250 monthly stipend, and guaranteed job
placement as a nurse at Providence Hospital upon graduation (3 year program)
with a starting salary of $40,000. The program is recruiting new students now!

On Tuesday, April 15, College
Expos will be hosting a college fair in Frederick at the Lynfield Event
Complex. This college fair will feature over 100 colleges/universities
throughout the US. Time 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Frederick
Shopping Center Merchants Association is announcing their scholarship. They will award up to three $1500
scholarships. There is certain criterion that must be met in order to apply.
Application deadline is May 2, 2008.
Senator
David Brinkley’s Senatorial Scholarships are now available in the Counseling
Center. You must reside in District 4 to qualify. For more information, please
pick up an application. DEADLINE: April 25, 2008. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Glade
Valley Lions Club is now offering their scholarship. You must include two
letters of recommendation from a teacher and from a responsible person in the community
other than a relative. DEADLINE: March 31, 2008.
The Don
Kuehl Memorial Scholarship, presented through the Civitian Club of Frederick,
MD, has been established to honor Mr. Don Kuehl, a lifelong member of the
organization who dedicated himself to community service. Up to $1000 will be
awarded. If you have done exemplary community service work and maintain a 3.0
or better, you may apply. DEADLINE: April 18, 2008.
The Susana
de Moya Foundation is offering a scholarship to students of Dominican heritage.
The Application Eligibility requires that the student have proof of Dominican
origin or one or both of his/her parents. Visit the webpage at www.sdmfoundation.org for
information and an application.
The WHS
Alumni will be awarding seven scholarships, all worth $1000 or more. You must
be a 2008 graduate who will continue your education in a trade, vocational
school or college. For more information, please stop by the Counseling Center
and pick up an application. To receive the scholarship, applicants must be
present at the Alumni Banquet on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. DEADLINE: April 15, 2008.
The Fort
Detrick Thrift Shop is a non-profit private organization which will be offering
two scholarships, each being worth $1000. You must be patrons or family members
of any active duty or retired member of the Armed Forces, civilian personnel
and contract civilians working at Fort Detrick or of retired civilian
personnel. Selection will be based on overall scholastic achievement,
leadership ability, and good citizenship. DEADLINE: April 18, 2008.
Kitty
McKinney Memorial Scholarship through the Maryland Association of Educational
Office Professionals is now available in the Guidance Office. You must intend
to continue your education in office or technology related programs, high
school senior, must have completed four courses from Business Management
Systems section of the FCPS High School Offering Guide, must enroll as a
full-time student in a two or four year college, university, business
college/school or vocational/technical education, have a 3.0 GPA and you must
be responsible for the completion and return all support materials (as stated
on the application section). See the application for more info. Applications
must be received no later than May 12, 2008. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
The
National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) is a national association
of Hispanic state legislators working to design and implement policies and
procedures that will impact the quality of life for Hispanic communities
throughout the country. There is certain criterion that must be met in order to
apply. Each recipient will be
selected by an independent evaluation committee. There is also a grant that will be available. Application deadline is May
12, 2008.
The Union
Bridge Church of the Brethren announces its 24th annual search for
Joanne Grossnickle Scholarship recipients. The scholarships will be awarded in

The Family
Resource Information Education Network for Down syndrome is offering
scholarships of up to $1000. You must be a legal resident of the US, at least a
full-time student in a public or a state government recognized private school,
an individual with Down syndrome seeking higher education in any field of your
choice, or you are a student that plans on at least a bachelors degree in
special education or a career in helping the needs of those individuals with
