Physics I
Physics I meets the Maryland State Content Standards for Physics. This course is designed for college bound students. Students will be provided with a basic understanding of the main topics of classical and modern physics and their impact on society. Topics covered include: the application of the laws of mechanics to explain the behavior of the physical world; demonstration of how vibrations and waves provide a model for our understanding of various physical phenomena; application of the laws of electricity and magnetism and their significant role in nature and technology; the discussion of the limitations of classical physics to the development of modern physics theories. Students will be required to use graphing techniques, algebra, and trigonometry in problem solving applications. Students will be exposed to technologies such as computer simulation, use of graphing calculators, and circuit boards. Laboratory experiences are an integral part of this curriculum required to promote deeper understanding of their concepts.
